As a Central Valley and Bay Area lifestyle photographer, I’m always chasing that perfect combination of light, texture, and atmosphere that tells your story in a natural, authentic way. Over the years, I’ve discovered a handful of local spots that truly capture the beauty and variety of our region — from oak-lined trails to coastal redwoods, lavender farms, and golden vineyards.

Whether you’re dreaming of a cozy family session, a glowing maternity shoot, or updated portraits “just because,” here are some of my favorite outdoor photography locations across Modesto, Ripon, Turlock, Livermore, Dublin, Pleasanton, Lodi, and Oakland Hills.

Modesto

1. Dry Creek Trail & Park

This Modesto favorite offers tree-lined trails, tall grasses, and seasonal wildflowers — perfect for golden hour sessions. It’s especially stunning in spring and fall when the leaves turn warm amber tones.

2. Modesto Almond Orchards (seasonal)

Every February, the Central Valley transforms into a dreamland of pink and white blossoms. If you’ve ever wanted that soft, romantic, airy vibe, this is the place. (Sessions book up quickly during bloom season!)

Ripon

3. Army Corps Park (Stanislaus River Parks)

This gem in Ripon has beautiful oak trees, rustic paths, and open fields — ideal for relaxed family or couple portraits. It’s one of my go-to’s for that “California countryside” look.

4. Mistlin Sports Park

Don’t let the name fool you — this location has open greenery, walking paths, and perfect pockets of golden light that make it lovely for casual lifestyle sessions.

Turlock

5. Donnelly Park

A local classic with lakeside views, willow trees, and open lawns. Great for families with little ones who need space to explore and play between photos.

6. CSU Stanislaus Campus Grounds

This quiet, manicured campus is full of charming bridges, tree-lined walkways, and architectural details that lend an elegant, timeless feel to your portraits.

7. Pageo Lavender Farm (by reservation)

A dreamy spot just outside Turlock, Pageo Lavender Farm offers rows of fragrant lavender, rustic barns, and soft golden light — a romantic backdrop perfect for maternity, engagement, or family sessions. The best time to book is early summer when the lavender is in full bloom and the fields glow purple.

Livermore

8. Sycamore Grove Park

With rolling hills, wild grasses, and winding trails, Sycamore Grove glows beautifully at sunset. It’s one of my favorite Livermore photography spots — earthy, natural, and full of warmth.

9. Ravenswood Historic Site

A Livermore gem that feels straight out of a storybook. The Ravenswood Historic Estate offers manicured lawns, vintage architecture, and tree-lined paths — an elegant backdrop for timeless family, maternity, or couples portraits. It’s especially dreamy during golden hour when the light filters through the olive trees.

10. Livermore Wineries

Several wineries in the area welcome photo sessions by reservation. Vineyards make for stunning backdrops, especially at sunset when the vines are full and the light is warm.

Dublin & Pleasanton

11. Alviso Adobe Community Park (Pleasanton)

This spot blends rustic charm with natural beauty — think old barns, wooden fences, and open fields framed by gentle hills. A top pick for fall mini sessions!

12. Dublin Heritage Park & Museums

Historic buildings, beautiful lawns, and quaint details make this location perfect for lifestyle or generational family portraits. The soft morning light here is gorgeous.

Lodi

13. West 12 Ranch (by appointment only)

If you’re looking for a location that feels cinematic and timeless, West 12 Ranch in Lodi is pure magic. It’s a photographer’s dream with its weathered barns, open fields, vintage trucks, and dreamy light filtering through the orchards. Ideal for senior portraits, maternity, or editorial-style sessions — every corner here tells a story.

Oakland Hills

14. Redwood Grove at Roberts Regional Recreation Area

For those who love nature with a touch of magic, Roberts Regional Recreation Area in the Oakland Hills is absolutely breathtaking. Towering redwoods, soft filtered light, and peaceful trails create an enchanted forest backdrop that’s perfect for family portraits or maternity sessions. It’s a wonderful option for clients who love the outdoors but want something more shaded and serene than a field setting.

Tips for Choosing Your Perfect Location

  • Match the vibe: Dreamy and romantic? Try Ravenswood, Pageo Lavender Farm, or West 12 Ranch. Natural and peaceful? The Oakland Hills Redwood Grove or Sycamore Grove are perfect.
  • Time of day matters: The best lighting is during golden hour — about an hour after sunrise or before sunset.
  • Seasonal magic: Blossoms in February, lavender in June, and golden fields in late summer through fall.
